Police Fatally Shoot Woman Armed With Knives During Mental Health Call: Police
The officer-involved shooting happened in the 1100 block of Ashbrook Drive in Mundelein on Monday evening, police said.
MUNDELEIN, IL — A woman is dead in a police-involved shooting in Mundelein after authorities responded to a report of suicidal woman who was armed with knives, according to police.
A relative called police at about 6 p.m. on Monday to report the woman had also said she wanted police to kill her, according to a news release from the Lake County Major Crimes Task Force. Police responded to the home in the 1100 block of Ashbrook Drive and learned the woman was sitting on the back patio.

Authorities said that while police tried to get more information from the relative, the woman — who was still armed with two large knives — got up, started yelling and aggressively opened the back sliding door and began to enter the home, according to police. An officer inside fired his gun, shooting the woman.
The woman was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead. The officer involved in the shooting also was taken to the hospital for an evaluation, according to the news release.

An autopsy has been scheduled with the Lake County Coroner's Office. The Lake County Major Crime Task Force is conducting an independent investigation into the incident.
