Vernon High School’s softball team pulled off a big late-inning surge Thursday, scoring four runs in the seventh to beat Carbondale 6–2 on the road. Junior pitcher Taylor DeSmith threw a complete game with eight strikeouts, while key hits from teammates like Elaina Schulte and Arwyn Wilkey helped the Rams improve their record and sweep the Terriers this season.
