• Fry Family YMCA in Naperville names new Executive Director (positivelynaperville.com) — A longtime Naperville resident, Ray McGury, has been named the new executive director of the Fry Family YMCA on 95th Street, starting Monday, August 24, 2026. He'll oversee the Y's staff, facilities, and Safe 'n Sound programs serving 18 schools in Naperville and Aurora, continuing his long record of local civic leadership.
   

• Naperville council mulls ban on retail sale of kratom products (chicagotribune.com) — Naperville City Council is weighing whether to ban retail kratom sales after hearing sharply mixed testimony from residents, health experts, and public safety officials. Leaders are wrestling with how to distinguish and regulate synthetic versus natural leaf products, especially after a kratom-linked death and several overdoses, and will revisit the issue once staff provides more information.
   

• Naperville community survey highlights strengths and areas for improvement (nctv17.org) — Naperville residents gave very high marks to public safety, parks, and the local economy in a new community survey, but flagged affordability and mobility as key concerns. City council members and residents are now weighing how to use the findings, from bike access and housing options to environmental priorities, in shaping future local decisions.
