Newsweek Names Silver Cross Hospital one of America’s Best Hospitals for Orthopedic Care 2026

In February, the Hospital also Earned Newsweek's All-Time Champion Title

Silver Cross Hospital has been named to Newsweek’s America’s Best Hospitals for Specialized Care 2026, earning standout honors as one of the top 200 hospitals in the U.S. for orthopedics. The ranking, released Wednesday, highlights hospitals delivering exceptional specialized care, based on clinical performance, patient outcomes and input from clinical experts.

Silver Cross is one of only 13 Illinois hospitals to earn a spot on the orthopedics ranking.

In February, Silver Cross was named to Newsweek’s World’s Best Hospitals 2026, marking the eighth consecutive year the hospital has appeared in the annual rankings and earning the added title of “All-Time Champion” by Newsweek. Silver Cross also received recognition in two areas frequently cited by patients and healthcare stakeholders as most important: infection prevention and patient experience.

In 2025, Silver Cross Hospital’s orthopedics program earned accolades as a high-performing hospital for hip and knee replacement from U.S. News & World Report.

“Musculoskeletal conditions affect nearly half of American adults and are a leading cause of disability, making access to high-quality orthopedic care essential,” Newsweek wrote on its awards website. “From arthritis to joint injuries, many conditions can be effectively treated with specialized expertise. This evaluation highlights hospitals delivering exceptional orthopedic care, based on clinical performance, patient outcomes, and expert input, helping patients find trusted treatment for conditions affecting bones, joints and muscles.”

Newsweek partners with Statista to determine leading specialty hospitals based on four data sources:

·Quality metrics, including mortality, safety of care, readmissions, and timely and effective care, from publicly available quality data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and Leapfrog. This data source alone accounted for 45% of the overall score.

·A nationwide online survey of medical professionals

·Results from patient surveys and

·A PROMs (patient-reported outcomes) score

The most recent Newsweek ranking is in addition to Silver Cross earning:

·A 5-Star Rating (the highest available) from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services in May

·A third consecutive 3-Star Rating (also the highest available) from The Society of Thoracic Surgeons for excellence in coronary artery bypass graft surgery

·Recognition as a 2025 Leapfrog Top Hospital as well as a spot on Forbes’ inaugural Top Hospitals list in December

·A #1 ranking in Illinois for Surgical Care by Healthgrades for two years running in early 2025
