The surprise win brings a $10,000 bonus to the local station, while the winner plans family trips, a new car, and a cruise to celebrate.
   

• Mother charged with first-degree murder in death of 2-year-old Frankfort boy (chicagotribune.com) — A 2-year-old Frankfort boy died Tuesday after being taken to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox, and his mother is now charged with first-degree murder. Police say three other children in the home were unharmed, and child welfare officials report no prior contact with the family as the community absorbs the tragedy.
   

• Arrests Made In 3 New Lenox Smash-And-Grabs As Mayor Blasts Governor & State For Approach To Crime (patch.com) — New Lenox businesses with video gaming machines have been hit by 14 smash-and-grab burglaries this year, but police have now made arrests tied to three of the cases. Mayor Tim Baldermann and Police Chief Micah Nuesse outline how crews operate, what security steps businesses can take, and sharply criticize state crime policies they say leave repeat offenders on the streets.
