Cook County Approves $704K For Northbrook Bridge Rehabilitation

NORTHBROOK, IL — Cook County has approved more than $700,000 for rehabilitation of the Sanders Road Bridge over the Tri-State Tollway in Northbrook.

The Cook County Board of Commissioners approved the $704,620 project Thursday as part of a broader package of planning, design and construction contracts for the county's Department of Transportation and Highways. The county said the contracts are intended to advance transportation projects focused on infrastructure condition, operations, safety and the regional economy.

The Northbrook project specifically calls for rehabilitation of the Sanders Road Bridge over Interstate 294. The county release did not include additional details on the scope or construction schedule.

Northbrook is also part of a larger north Cook County pavement rehabilitation package valued at nearly $19.55 million. That work includes seven corridors: Freeman Road, Gifford Road, Mount Prospect Road, Oakton Street, Old Sutton Road, Quentin Road and Wilke Road. Improvements will include roadway patching and resurfacing, curb and gutter replacement, sidewalk ramp construction and drainage repairs.

Other projects approved Thursday include $993,799 for a traffic signal replacement in Schaumburg, $217,900 for design work to close a gap in the Salt Creek Trail system and $4.3 million for a planning study involving a possible new I-294 interchange near Crestwood and Robbins.

The Cook County Department of Transportation and Highways is responsible for 568 centerline miles of highways, 132 bridges and 360 traffic signals across the county.
