📰 News we're reading
• There Are Way More John Hughes Movies Based In Shermer, IL Than You Think (cinemablend.com) — Many of John Hughes' most beloved teen movies secretly trace back to Northbrook, since his fictional town of Shermer, IL was modeled closely on his real hometown here. The story walks through how films like The Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, and others share a single suburban universe, often filmed at Glenbrook North and around Chicago's northern suburbs. It's a fun reminder of how often our community has doubled as Hollywood's favorite high school backdrop.

• Victor E. Rugh III (pajaronian.com) — Northbrook readers may recognize Victor Rugh from his long career as a computer programmer and analyst with Underwriters Laboratories in Northbrook, where he worked until retiring in 2004. The Elgin resident, a Navy veteran and devoted music lover, died July 28 at age 84, leaving behind five children, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and three sisters.
