Pro demos, snacks and prizes at free youth Skateboard Fest on May 30 in Northbrook
Event at Northbrook Skate Park is hosted by Asylum Skateboard and the Northbrook Park District
Skateboard Fest will be back at Techny Skate Park in Northbrook for a lively celebration of skateboarding with cool raffle prizes and an awesome opportunity to watch pros perform tricks.
The free event for youth ages 6 to 13 will take place from 1 to 2:15 p.m. on Saturday, May 30 at the skate park, located at 1750 Techny Road within Techny Prairie Park and Fields. The event is hosted by Asylum Skateboard and the Northbrook Park District
Anyone can attend — whether they have a longstanding love for skateboarding or are curious first-timers, said Asylum Skateboard President and CEO Jeff Conyers.

The event will feature two pro skateboarders, Chaz Ortiz and Jeff Zielinski, who will engage with the participants and give demos alongside instructors from Asylum Skateboard.
Skaters can enjoy snacks and will have a chance to win two complete skateboards in a raffle.

Recreation Supervisor Isaac Urow said this is always a very fun event to host at the Skate Park, located within Techny Prairie Park and Fields.
“The Asylums instructors are amazing, and it’s really nice seeing how the sport of skateboarding can grow,” he said.
Skateboarding is a great sport that has its own unique culture and teaches children resilience, Conyers said. While the sport used to attract mostly boys, girls are increasingly joining as well, he added.
“It’s not the easiest thing to do, but if you get the proper guidance on how to do the basics, this is the best learning tool out there,” he said. “It teaches you to never give up, and it teaches you to focus. You’re falling down, getting back up and trying to achieve that trick, and you don’t give up.”
Asylum Skateboard also offers private lessons, classes for beginners and intermediate/advanced levels, and summer skateboarding camps for all levels (start dates June 15, July 20 and Aug. 10) at the Northbrook Park District.
