Techny Prairie Activity Center in Northbrook offering zero enrollment fee in September

Fall into fitness with free enrollment for this month only

The Northbrook Park District’s Techny Prairie Activity Center, a state-of-the-art fitness facility that this year celebrated its 5th anniversary, is waving enrollment fees for all new members through Sept. 30, 2026.

The building features two spacious group class studios, a 6,000-square-foot fitness center, an elevated indoor track with nature views, and open gym times for basketball, pickleball and volleyball.

Group fitness classes are included in membership, with more than 50 weekly options such as Mat Pilates, Zumba, Tai Chi, Barre Sculpt, Yogalates, Cardio Blast & Core, Essentrics, Walk and Tone, Bootcamp and many more.

“I noticed that my cardiorespiratory fitness was starting to lack a little bit, so I finished my program and got inspired to get back in shape,” he says. “TPAC has everything I would expect or hope for out of a gym. It’s very inviting, and it’s a very nice local community. The staff is all very friendly, and it feels comfortable and accessible.”

Member Fred Karlin, a fan of group classes, says he is motivated to stick to his fitness routine by having people around. He recently convinced his girlfriend to become a member as well.

“The facility is open and airy, there is a lot of sunlight. The members are really friendly, no one is judgmental,” Karlin said. “And the price is very reasonable!”

Jody Gale is a charter member, having joined when TPAC opened in 2021. At the time, she and her husband had just moved from out of state to be close to their children and grandchildren.

“I didn’t know anyone, and TPAC has had such a positive impact in my life,” Gale said. “I met so many people that have become my friends. We go out socially, we meet for coffee, we go out as couples.”

TPAC members also get a discount when registering for specialty workshops and classes.

Options this fall include “Strong Steps: A Fall Prevention Workshop” on Sept. 26 and “Pelvic Floor Workshop” on Oct. 10, and “OsteoFit Fusion” from Oct. 7 to Nov. 11 and “Fit Fore Golf” from Nov. 6 to Dec. 11.

TPAC membership types include youth (ages 11-12 for walking track and open gym accompanied by an adult), teen (ages 13-17, must also purchase and complete the Strong Teen program), adult (18-64) and senior (65 and up), and indoor track-only memberships for ages 15 and up.
