• Oregon man pleads not guilty to armed violence and other weapon charges (shawlocal.com) — An Oregon man has pleaded not guilty to multiple felony weapon-related charges after a June 4 incident that drew deputies, a bomb squad, and federal agents to a subdivision four miles north of town. No injuries were reported, but nearby residents were evacuated, the defendant remains jailed without pretrial release, and both prosecutors and defense counsel agree he should receive a mental health evaluation.
   

• Rockford Man Charged After Striking Pedestrian in Ogle County (1023thecoyote.net) — Early Thursday in Oregon, Ogle County deputies say a 66-year-old Rockford man was found seriously injured in a ditch along Illinois Route 2 after being struck by a vehicle that left the scene. Investigators later located the suspected vehicle in Sterling and arrested a 30-year-old Rockford man, who now faces two Class 4 felony charges tied to leaving a personal-injury crash. The victim was transferred to a Madison hospital with serious injuries.
   

• Animal activists push Ogle County board to shut down ‘abusive' rodeo (wifr.com) — Animal advocates, including an Oregon resident, are pressuring Ogle County leaders to shut down a controversial rodeo near Rochelle over concerns about a steer-tailing event. A county committee has already voted to revoke the rodeo’s special use permit, with a final decision set for the June 16 county board meeting at 105 S. Fifth St. in Oregon.
