'Suspicious' Fire Under Investigation Near Plainfield: Authorities

Firefighters were called to the scene early Sunday morning.

WILL COUNTY, IL — Authorities are investigating what they believe is a suspicious fire that occurred in the early morning hours Sunday in Will County.

Emergency personnel received a 911 call around 3:30 a.m. about the blaze in the 23700 block of 119th Street in an unincorporated area near Plainfield, according to the Plainfield Fire Protection District.

Firefighters arrived to find a large detached garage and a separate large barn both on fire, authorities said, adding no injuries were reported.

“The cause of the fire has been classified as suspicious, and the incident remains under investigation by MABAS Division 15 Fire Investigators, in coordination with the Illinois State Fire Marshal’s Office,” the fire protection district said in a news release.

The Plainfield district received assistance from neighboring fire agencies in the Bolingbrook, Romeoville, Oswego and Troy areas, as well as help from the Plainfield Police Department and Will County Sheriff’s Office.
