Don was employed by the Elgin, Joliet and Eastern Railway Company as an accountant for 33 years, and retired as the payroll supervisor.

Don graduated from Joliet Township High School, Joliet Junior College and received a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from Northern Illinois University. He then joined the Marine Reserves in Joliet, and attained the rank of Sergeant before being honorably discharged.
Don was employed by the Elgin, Joliet and Eastern Railway Company as an accountant for 33 years, and retired as the payroll supervisor. Upon his retirement from EJ&E, he drove vehicles for Fred C. Dames Funeral Home and did warranty work for Johansen & Anderson Heating & Air Conditioning Company.

An accomplished musician, he thoroughly enjoyed playing saxophone for over 50 years in many area dance bands throughout the Chicago land area. Don was also a member of the Musicians Union, Local 37, for over 50 years.
He is survived by his daughters, Jane (Clint) Farris and Linda (Marc) Rousonelos; his grandchildren, Caroline and Andrew Farris and Quinn McGann (son of Linda Rousonelos) as well as his loving partner and companion, Diane Birkey.
Don is preceded in death by his parents, Charles F. and Adeline Martin and his wife of 53 years, Sharon Martin.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name to Our Savior Lutheran Church, 1910 Black Rd., Joliet or Lightways Hospice and Serious Illness Care would be appreciated.
Funeral Services for Donald C. Martin will be Friday, September 25, 2026 at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 1910 Black Road, Joliet, where all friends and relatives can gather from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Service at 11:00 a.m.Entombment will follow in the Mausoleum at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
