Marlene was happiest when surrounded by family and took great pride in being there for them through all of life's moments.

Marlene M. Tough

Marlene M. Tough, age 87, of Shorewood, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 2, 2026, at Lightways Hospice and Serious Illness Care in Joliet. She was born in Chicago on October 13, 1938, a daughter of the late Edward Tully and Mabel Bergman.

Family was truly the heart of Marlene’s life. She found her greatest joy in caring for her home and the people she loved, especially her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Marlene was happiest when surrounded by family and took great pride in being there for them through all of life’s moments, both big and small. After moving to Shorewood Glen, Marlene embraced a new chapter of life and enjoyed participating in the various clubs and social activities, making new friends and staying active in her community.

Marlene is survived by her children, Henry "Hank" (Carol) Tough III and Patricia (Kenneth) Karasek; grandchildren, Henry "Hank" (April)Tough IV, Keith (Lauren) Tough, Rick (Erin) Tough, Dustin Karasek, and Kelsey Karasek; great-grandchildren, Ava Tough, Celia Tough, Rylee Tough, and Parker Tough; her sisters, Shirley, Peggy, and Dorothy; and numerous nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Henry "Hank" Francis Tough, Jr. on December 13, 2018; brothers, Tom, Don, and Eddie; and sister, Marie.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Marlene's name can be made to Lightways Hospice and Serious Illness Care, 250 Water Stone Circle, Joliet, IL, 60431.

Visitation for Marlene M. Tough will be held on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd. in Joliet, from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at 9:30 a.m., from the funeral home chapel to St. Mary Immaculate Catholic Church, located at 15629 S. Route 59, Plainfield, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m.Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Justice, IL.
