Stay Off DuPage River After Rescue Of Kayakers, Tubers: Forest Preserve
Rescue crews had to be called out for river rescues on Friday and Saturday.
SHOREWOOD, IL — Amid rising water, flood risk and continued rain, residents should stay out of the DuPage River, forest preserve officials said Saturday.
"On Friday and Saturday, emergency responders have been called to assist tubers and kayakers caught in the swift current at Hammel Woods and in Naperville," the Forest Preserve District said in an alert on Saturday.
On Friday, five kayakers were rescued—and 22 had to be accounted for—along the DuPage River in Bolingbrook and Naperville, fire officials said.

"Heavy rain has created fast-moving, hazardous conditions along the river," officials said, adding, "Even if the weather appears calm, the river remains dangerous due to strong currents, changing water levels, and hidden debris.
"Please avoid tubing, kayaking, canoeing, or entering the river until water levels recede and conditions improve. If you see someone in distress on the water, call 911 immediately. Do not attempt a rescue yourself unless you have the proper training and equipment."
