Man Charged In Defacement Of Southwet Side Chicago Police Memorial
A 29-year-old Chicago man who allegedly spray-painted the word "TRASH" on a memorial honoring fallen CPD officers faces felony, police said.
CHICAGO—A 29-year-old Chicago man is accused of vandalizing a memorial honoring fallen Chicago police officers on the city’s Southwest Side.
Armando Ramirez, of the 2300 block of South Kolin, is facing a felony charge of criminal defacement of a police memorial in the West Lawn neighborhood on the Southwest Side. Damages exceed $500.
Around June 5, the memorial was discovered vandalized with the word “TRASH” spray-painted on the exterior wall of CPD Soccer, 6801 S. Pulaski Road.

The mural “Lasting Leagacy” was created by artist Anna Murphy recognizes the lives and service of three slain Chicago police officers Luis Huesca, Enrique Martinez and Andres Vasquez who gave their lives protecting the Southwest Side.
Ramirez was identified as the person who on June 15 was seen defacing the memorial, police said. He was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of vandalism in the 2100 block of South Fairfield Avenue.

He was taken into custody and charged accordingly.
