2. City of Springfield launches BEACON Project to improve response efforts (wcia.com) — Springfield is rolling out a new BEACON Project to change how first responders handle mental health, substance use, and overdose calls, giving EMTs more time and options beyond emergency rooms. Announced at Fire Station 6, the program aims to better match residents with the specific help they need while strengthening connections between the fire department, city officials, and the community.
   

3. Illinois Capitol renovations expected to wrap up this year (sj-r.com) — Work on the $350 million renovation of the Illinois State Capitol's north wing in Springfield is expected to finish this winter, after delays but without going over budget. Residents will soon see a new secure main entrance, underground parking and conference space, and restored historic interiors, along with a redesigned north drive that prioritizes pedestrian access and safety.

Remember Sept. 11 this Friday (illinoistimes.com) — Springfield residents are invited to gather at their neighborhood fire stations this Friday morning to mark the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks with brief remarks and a 7:46 a.m. moment of silence. All 13 Springfield fire stations will participate, and the city is encouraging families to attend so younger generations understand why the community continues to remember.
   

5. Career Connections (springfieldbusinessjournal.com) — Springfield-area professionals are being recruited by the Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce to join a new Career Connections program that pairs them with local high school students exploring careers. Volunteers will be listed in an online directory for interviews and possible job shadowing, with the effort funded through a Sangamon County grant backed by state resources.
