• Chicago schools engineer invents a device to lower lead levels in drinking fountains. But can it scale for a citywide crisis? (thenewstribune.com) — University Park families are still living with the legacy of a major lead-in-water crisis, but a Chicago school engineer’s automatic flushing device has sharply reduced lead levels in nearby Crete-Monee schools and could help local buildings too. The system, already used in several districts, continuously flushes fountains to prevent stagnant, lead‑laden water while long-term pipe replacement drags on and lawsuits work through the courts.
