• Western Springs Leaf Pickup 'Difficult, Costly,' Changes Planned (patch.com) — Western Springs officials are responding to more than 700 resident survey responses by tweaking the village's curbside leaf pickup program after complaints about late collections, safety issues, and clogged storm drains. This season will bring better communication, stricter rules on what goes in leaf piles, and possible December pickup, while the board studies longer-term changes to a costly service that ties up most public works staff.
   

• 26% Water Hike Expected In Western Springs After 8 Years Without Increases (patch.com) — Western Springs leaders are preparing to raise water bills by 26 percent starting Jan. 1, the first increase in eight years, to fund ongoing maintenance of the village's aging water system. Trustees are leaning toward a higher fixed fee for all households, even as they debate how to justify the hike after voters already approved a 2025 infrastructure referendum for water and sewer improvements.
   

• Drawn-Out Permitting Upsets Western Springs Resident (patch.com) — A Western Springs homeowner is challenging why it took more than four months and a $1,600 review fee to secure a permit for a screened-in porch on Harvey Avenue. He told village officials the delay stemmed from miscommunication among staff and argued he should not be penalized for others' violations, prompting the village president and manager to defend the fees but promise a closer look.
