• Western Springs Theft Suspect Seemingly Helpful Man: Police (patch.com) — A 75-year-old Willow Springs woman had her wallet stolen while shopping at Mariano's in Western Springs after a tall, dark-haired man offered to help her reach an item. Police say the wallet contained cash and cards later used in $4,000 in declined charges, but store surveillance could not clearly capture or identify the suspect. Residents are reminded to watch their purses and valuables even in seemingly routine interactions.
   

• All-American Eagles hosts essay contest (beverlyreview.net) — Middle schoolers around Western Springs are invited to write a 400-word-plus essay on "What Makes America Great?" for the All-American Eagles Program. Entries, mailed to a Western Springs address, can earn cash prizes for top seventh- and eighth-grade writers and even a bonus award for the school with the most participation.
