How To Compost Your Jack-O'-Lantern In Wilmette

Don't let your pumpkins rot on your porch or in your dumpster; you can compost them in Wilmette.

WILMETTE, IL — Wilmette's Pumpkin Pitch will give Skokie residents a chance to give their lovingly crafted jack-o'-lanterns a second life.

The Pumpkin Pitch will take place on Nov. 7 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Village Hall, at 1200 Wilmette Ave, and at Centennial Park, at 2300 Old Glenview Rd. The village is also hosting a second date on Nov. 28 at Centennial Park only.

The event is free and open to all residents who may not have their own way to dispose of compostable waste.

Pumpkins are 90 percent water and produce a nutrient-rich organic product, which is useful in restoring eroded and nutrient-depleted soils.

Clean and plain pumpkins will be accepted, as well as pumpkins painted with acrylic paint. Any pumpkins that have candle wax, stickers or any other type of non-compostable decoration cannot be accepted.
