• Wilmette Board Honors Rep. Gabel For Securing Fire Station Renovation Grant (patch.com) — Wilmette officials publicly thanked state Rep. Robyn Gabel for securing a $350,000 state grant to renovate the village's two aging fire stations on Lake Avenue and Illinois Road. Planned upgrades will modernize sleeping quarters with gender-neutral bunk rooms and add airlock vestibules to improve firefighter health, safety, and living conditions. The village has hired BKV Group to design the next phase of renovations.
   

• Lake Michigan Diver Dies Exploring Deep Shipwreck (wcrz.com) — A 61-year-old Wilmette resident, Michael Jones, died earlier this month while exploring a deep Lake Michigan shipwreck about 18 miles off Chicago, and his body was later recovered from 160 feet of water. A specialized nonprofit team located him and brought him to shore, where Wilmette police and firefighters received him, though authorities have not yet released details about what went wrong.
