ā¢ Cars overturned, roads flooded, roofs damaged and more as severe weather tears through Michiana (wndu.com) ā Severe storms have damaged South Shore Line infrastructure, forcing all trains to stop at East Chicago and suspending service farther east, so riders shouldnāt expect to travel beyond that station for now. The same system has flipped cars, flooded streets, and knocked out power for tens of thousands across Michiana, with Elkhart officials urging residents to stay indoors. ā¢ Ruthie Mae Mathews (davidsoncountysource.com) ā East Chicago is remembering Ruthie Mae Mathews, who was born in the city in 1951 before later moving with her family to Nashville, where she worked more than three decades at Vanderbilt. Loved as a wife, mother, grandmother, greatāgrandmother, and friend, she is survived by her children, many grandchildren and greatāgrandchildren, and extended family who will celebrate her life at a later date.
