Elkhart Community Schools financial analysis urges more cuts (wvpe.org) — Elkhart Community Schools is being urged to make more budget cuts, mainly in salaries and benefits, after a new analysis warned the education fund deficit could top $15 million within five years. Consultants and district leaders say difficult staffing and program decisions are coming, stressing that stabilizing finances now is key to protecting students and classroom support long term.

Rhapsody Arts & Music Festival returns to Elkhart for 46th year this weekend (wndu.com) — This weekend’s free Rhapsody Arts & Music Festival takes over Island Park in downtown Elkhart, running Friday and Saturday with extended hours. Expect multiple stages of live music, a new family zone with rides, artisan vendors, food trucks, and a Westwind Brewery beer garden along the riverfront.
4. Feed The Children ends Elkhart Distribution Center Partner Market Program (wsbt.com) — Feed the Children is ending its Partner Market “grocery store” program at the Elkhart distribution center later this month, meaning local agencies will now need to arrange and pay for their own freight. The nonprofit says the Elkhart facility will stay open and continue supplying product, but won’t say if the change could lead to layoffs, emphasizing a shift in how it deploys resources statewide.
5. Elkhart Man Charged After Police Say Truck Hit Horse-Drawn Buggy, Driver Injured (wowo.com) — An Elkhart man has been arrested after police say his pickup hit a horse-drawn buggy on State Road 13 near Middlebury, flipping it and sending the buggy driver to the hospital. Investigators allege he was following too closely and left the scene, and he now faces preliminary operating while intoxicated and hit-and-run charges while the case remains under investigation.
