Working from a base in Merrillville, the veteran-led group has already assisted dozens of Lake County homes and is still taking requests, though they warn their waitlist is long and time-limited. 
2. Volunteers, assisted living facility clash in food giveaway during Gary power outage (chicagotribune.com) — During Gary's recent power outage, a Miller Beach church's volunteers say they were ordered out of Miller Beach Terrace assisted living while handing out hot meals and care packages to residents. Facility leaders counter that the group lacked required approval, filmed inside despite posted rules, and bypassed dietary safeguards, highlighting tensions over how best to help vulnerable seniors during emergencies.
3. Family of security guard fatally shot by police in Gary, Indiana, left with questions (cbsnews.com) — A 67-year-old Gary security guard, Kenneth Williams, was shot and killed during a confrontation with nine officers from Gary Police and the Lake County Sheriff's Department near 4th and Broadway, and his family is demanding answers. Indiana State Police say Williams exchanged gunfire with officers, while relatives and a policing expert stress that key facts, including body-camera footage, have yet to be released as the investigation continues.
4. 50 years ago, Tuckahoe reached the Little League World Series (richmonder.org) — Gary briefly steps into this nostalgic look back at Tuckahoe's remarkable 1976 Little League season, when its Senior team reached the Senior League World Series hosted in the city.
