State agencies and the National Guard are helping NIPSCO clear debris and restore electricity, but many Gary residents say they urgently need more relief and a faster timeline.

Tens of thousands in Indiana are still without power a week after deadly storms (ksgf.com) — More than 20,000 customers in Gary are still without electricity a week after destructive storms, and NIPSCO now says full power restoration there isn't expected until August 25. Crews are rebuilding heavily damaged infrastructure while Mayor Eddie Melton and utility leaders acknowledge residents' frustration over lost food, heat, and long days without air conditioning.

Huntsville woman collects supplies for hometown of Gary, Indiana after tornado (waff.com) — Gary residents still without power after last week's tornado are getting help from a Huntsville native who's collecting flashlights, batteries and other essentials and personally driving them back to her hometown. Donations are being gathered through Saturday in Alabama, aimed at helping Gary families keep food cold and manage daily life while they wait for electricity to be restored.
