Braun declares statewide emergency amid 'catastrophic' flooding, widespread power outages (oann.com) — Merrillville is among the Northwest Indiana communities hardest hit by historic power outages after catastrophic flooding, with NIPSCO calling this its largest outage ever. A statewide disaster emergency is in effect as storms, flash floods, and damaging winds continue, bringing road closures, evacuations, and prolonged restoration work that could affect local travel, safety, and access to electricity for days.
