• Humane Indiana brings in over 70 dogs from hoarding call; police investigating (wgntv.com) — Merrillville police and Lake County Animal Control helped rescue more than 70 dogs and several cats from a local hoarding situation, with all animals now recovering at Humane Indiana in Munster. The shelter reports strong community support, no euthanizations, and several early adoptions, and is still accepting donations and adoption applications while police continue investigating the Merrillville case.
   

• NIPSCO's latest outage numbers; Gary mayor provides update at WGN (wgntv.com) — Merrillville is among several Northwest Indiana communities on NIPSCO's repair schedule, with power restoration targeted for Friday after devastating Aug. 11 storms. Gary still faces the largest number of outages, prompting its mayor and Governor Braun to pressure NIPSCO, while Munster moves ahead with a major debris-removal contract to speed neighborhood cleanup.
