Witnesses described an ongoing dispute and a confrontation on the porch before shots were fired. The defendant, who has prior felony convictions, is scheduled to be sentenced July 1.

Swierc settlement with BSU leaves key free speech question unanswered (jconline.com) — A former Ball State University staff member living in Muncie has settled her First Amendment lawsuit with the university for $225,000 after being fired over a private Facebook post. The agreement leaves unresolved how far public employers can go in disciplining workers for online speech amplified by others. Local faculty say the payout has real budget implications and raises ongoing free speech concerns on campus.
