Warren Central, IU alum killed in triple homicide in South Bend (wthr.com) — A young Indiana University graduate visiting South Bend to celebrate a Notre Dame game died days after being shot during a large fight on Bissell Street, in a triple-homicide that also claimed two others. Her mother is urging anyone with information to contact Michiana Crime Stoppers and pleading with the shooter to turn themselves in, as police say they have no public updates yet.
   

2. South Bend International Airport adds new food, drink options for travelers (wndu.com) — New food and drink spots are now open at South Bend International Airport, including a Dunkin', Jimmy John's, and The Lauber Overlook bar past security. Another Dunkin' has opened near the South Shore Line, and a larger second-phase expansion with a full-service Lauber restaurant is planned for 2027, bringing more local jobs and options for travelers.
   

3. South Bend Residents Left Frustrated by Ongoing Post Office Closure (abc57.com) — A South Bend post office remains closed more than a month after a small fire, leaving nearby residents frustrated and rerouting services to the South Michigan Street location. USPS says repairs are nearly done and, while not guaranteed, expects to reopen the branch by mid-October, with the removed outdoor drop box returning once doors reopen.
   

4. St. Joseph County candidates discuss data centers, mental health funding at voter forum (abc57.com) — St. Joseph County Council and Commission candidates met in South Bend to debate data centers, environmental impacts, and mental health funding, highlighting how county decisions shape roads, services, and neighborhood investment. With primary turnout at just 14%, organizers hope the forum and a second event on Oct. 8 will help residents vote based on issues, not just party labels.
   

5. Lawsuit over 2024 South Bend Police shooting moves forward (wsbt.com) — A federal lawsuit over a 2024 South Bend police shooting is moving ahead, with claims against former officer Emanuel Garcia for excessive force and battery allowed to proceed. The judge dismissed part of the case against the city, saying there wasn't enough evidence of a policy or training failure, but gave plaintiff Antoine Minor 30 days to revise that claim.
