Because of prior felony convictions, he was barred from having a gun, and the case drew in federal and local agencies, though no one was hurt when staff safely recovered the weapon.

Organizations offer 2,000 free rabies vaccines to St. Joseph County pets (wsbt.com) — St. Joseph County pet owners, including those in South Bend, can sign up now for more than 2,000 free drive-thru rabies vaccinations at the county fairgrounds on October 11. The Humane Society and South Bend Animal Resource Center are removing cost barriers, but you must pre-register, follow your assigned arrival window, and spots will close once filled or by October 5.
   

5. 2 women found dead in submerged vehicle in St. Joseph River believed to be missing South Bend moms (wzzm13.com) — Two young mothers from South Bend, Alexa Navarro and Vanessa Bautista, are believed to be the women found dead in a vehicle pulled from the St. Joseph River in Niles, Michigan. Investigators used phone and video data to locate the submerged car and are still trying to determine how it left the roadway, while families and the South Bend community rally in grief and support.
