Valparaiso Woman Charged After Allegedly Striking Nurse At Northwest Health Porter (regionnewssource.org) — A 20-year-old Valparaiso resident has been charged with felony battery against a public safety official after an alleged altercation with a nurse at Northwest Health – Porter on U.S. Highway 6. Court documents say the woman, upset about wait times, tried to re-enter the ER, pushed the nurse, and struck her with a phone before being lodged in Porter County Jail. 
2. Porter County Community Foundation Awards Over $250,000 to Local Community Organizations (wimsradio.com) — More than $257,000 in new grants is heading to Porter County nonprofits, including funding for Valparaiso Parks’ new infant and toddler play zone at Kirchhoff Park and car seats through Valparaiso Police. The Porter County Community Foundation details 33 awards supporting safety, housing, mental health, libraries, and youth programs. Residents and organizations can already prepare for the next grant cycle opening July 1.
3. Porter wants to keep 911 dispatch operation but will join the county (chicagotribune.com) — Porter and Chesterton are moving their 911 dispatching into the Porter County E-911 system, a change that will temporarily place their police on the same radio channel as Valparaiso until a fourth channel is added. Local leaders and dispatchers are debating how quickly to consolidate, especially with the busy summer season at the Dunes approaching.

This Indiana Forest Preserve Trail Winds Through Wetlands And Feels Completely Undiscovered (myfamilytravels.com) — Meadowbrook Nature Preserve, just northwest of Valparaiso, offers four miles of looping trails through wetlands, ravines, and meadows at 109 W 700 N.
