• Whirlpool Amana to lay off 288 Iowa workers as second shift ends (kcci.com) — Hundreds of Amana residents face more job uncertainty as Whirlpool will cut 288 second-shift positions at its Amana refrigeration plant on July 5 as part of a multi-year modernization plan. The company says it has already eliminated nearly 400 jobs since March, but does not expect further layoffs and will offer on-site HR help, counseling, and unemployment guidance to affected workers.

Local fellows say the loss has already shut down training they’d just started, while leaders question why the federal agency reversed course on a signed program contract.
