📰 News we're reading

• CenturyLink copper land line service to end in 20 Iowa communities (ottumwaradio.com) — CenturyLink's traditional copper landline service in Ames is scheduled to shut off October 18, forcing remaining customers to switch to internet-based phone options or another provider. The company says few people still use copper lines, but some Ames customers argue they weren't given the 90 days' notice federal rules require. Expect outreach letters and consider alternatives if you still rely on a landline.
