• Council moves forward on housing, social district and data center committee (iowastatedaily.com) — Ames City Council has advanced a 97‑unit housing development on Ontario Street, approved a new downtown social district, and begun the process of raising local electric rates. Council members also appointed a diverse Data Center Committee to study environmental and health impacts of data centers, while using the upcoming Witch's Walk event to test the new social district rules.
   

• How a once-in-a-lifetime indoor aquatic center became reality in Ames (amestrib.com) — Ames residents now have full access to the new Fitch Family Indoor Aquatic Center on North Elm Avenue, with multiple pools, slides, and fitness options. The city has set extensive schedules for open swim, lap swim, water walking, and kids' "Tot Time," giving families and fitness-minded residents many choices for using the $27 million, donor-supported facility.
   

• Christie Vilsack to present historic cup plate collection (holaamericanews.com) — Ames residents are invited to a free Oct. 4 program at Iowa State's Brunnier Art Museum, where former Iowa first lady Christie Vilsack will introduce her family's newly donated collection of historic glass cup plates. The talk runs from 2 to 3 p.m. at 1805 Center Drive in Ames and offers a first public look at more than 75 decorative plates from the 1820s–1850s.
