After a volunteer dramatically highlighted the issue to city leaders, the city manager linked it to hundreds of new downtown housing units and more pets. The campaign will stress health, environmental, and quality-of-life impacts for residents and visitors. 
2. An attorney for a Mount Pleasant man charged in a fatal shooting at a Burlington bar is asking that the case be moved out of Des Moines County (kbur.com) — A Mount Pleasant man charged in a deadly shooting at a Burlington bar is seeking to move his trial out of Des Moines County, arguing media coverage could affect jurors. The case stems from a March 7 incident at Chavy’s Bar & Grill, after which the 19-year-old victim died at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington. Jury selection began Tuesday.
3. Donation fuels West Burlington's largest fireworks (mississippivalleypublishing.com) — West Burlington is gearing up for what officials say will be the biggest fireworks show in the city’s history, thanks to a major private donation. Residents can expect a full day of 250th-anniversary Independence Day festivities, including bands, a parade, bullfrog races, food, and family activities, capped by an expanded fireworks display drawing crowds from across the region.

Prospect League Baseball: Bees fall in road game at Springfield (mississippivalleypublishing.com) — Burlington Bees fans saw the team drop an 8–3 road game to the Springfield Lucky Horseshoes after giving up seven unanswered runs Wednesday night. Burlington briefly led 2–0 and later added a late RBI double, but stranded key baserunners. The Bees, now 5–9, will see Springfield again on July 17 at Robin Roberts Stadium.

Nancy Ellen Borg Obituary – Oquawka, IL (1953–2026) (wgil.com) — Family and friends in the Burlington area are mourning Nancy Ellen Borg, born in Burlington and recently cared for at Hospice House in West Burlington, who passed away June 10 at age 72. Her long career, love of sports, and devotion to family are remembered. Visitation is Sunday and funeral services Monday in Oquawka, with memorials to Hospice House of West Burlington or Compassus of Galesburg.
