• 'Beautiful and Haunting' Works by UNI Art Professor on Display at Monmouth College (977wmoi.com) — A longtime University of Northern Iowa art professor based in Cedar Falls is showcasing his new exhibition, "Was It Just a Dream?", at Monmouth College's Len G. Everett Gallery through Oct. 23. His abstract, emotionally themed paintings explore modern dating and human vulnerability, and he'll give a reception and gallery talk on the final day of the show.

• Mid-Prairie's Landstrum places 14th in Johnson Invite (thenews-ia.com) — Cedar Falls girls and boys cross country teams both placed near the top at the large Steve Johnson Invitational at Wartburg College in Waverly, with standout individual finishes in the top five. Mid-Prairie's runners also turned in strong performances, highlighted by Kendal Landstrum's 14th-place finish and several teammates in the top 100.
