• Active Thursday Weather Brings Down Trees, Street Light; Causes Small Fire in Charles City – KCHA NEWS – Charles City's News, Weather & Sports (kchanews.com) — Strong Thursday morning storms in Charles City split a large Central Park tree, knocked down a street light at Clark and Main, and briefly cut power around town, including at Floyd County Medical Center. A small lab fire tied to a battery backup was quickly contained, no one was hurt, and the hospital says it’s now operating at full capacity again.
   

• Phil Marty, a former Tribune travel editor, dies at 80 (chicagotribune.com) — Charles City is remembering former resident and Charles City Press sportswriter Phil Marty, who went on to a long career as a travel editor and writer for major newspapers. Marty, a Charles City High School graduate, died May 7 at age 80 in Utah, and his family is planning services while sharing stories of his journalism, photography, and love of dogs.
