Severe storms cause outages for OPPD, MidAmerican customers in Omaha metro (wowt.com) — Severe overnight thunderstorms have knocked out power for thousands of MidAmerican customers, with outages concentrated mainly in the Council Bluffs area. The storms triggered tornado warnings across southwest Iowa and left widespread damage and outages throughout eastern Nebraska and western Iowa, so residents should be prepared for service disruptions and cleanup through the day. 
2. State Headlines: Council Bluffs Animal Abuse Ban Approved; Iowa Guard Leadership Change and Medicaid Audit Raise Concerns (westerniowatoday.com) — Council Bluffs has approved a new animal protection ordinance that bans people convicted of serious animal abuse, neglect, torture, or dogfighting from owning cats or dogs. The statewide roundup also notes a leadership change in the Iowa National Guard, questions over Medicaid prescription drug costs, and funeral plans for victims of a recent Muscatine mass shooting.
3. Lawyer convicted of orchestrating drug deals wins back law license (abajournal.com) — A former assistant city attorney for Council Bluffs, Don Richard John Bauermeister, has had his Iowa law license reinstated by the state Supreme Court after a marijuana trafficking conviction and successful completion of probation. The court now considers him of good moral character, and he says his life has changed significantly since the 2017 case.
