• Iowa City police chief pushes for permanent pedmall patrol (kcrg.com) — Iowa City's police chief is urging creation of a permanent squad to patrol the downtown pedestrian mall after an April shooting injured five people, but several council members are skeptical. The proposal, which could add three officers and partner with the University of Iowa, will still come to a future council agenda as leaders also weigh looming budget constraints from new state property tax limits.
• Chicagoland man facing multiple charges after vehicle search turns up narcotics (1630kcjj.com) — Iowa City police arrested a 20-year-old Illinois man after finding marijuana, THC products, alcohol, and multiple fake IDs in his parked BMW at Aero Rental on Kirkwood Avenue early Sunday morning. Officers say they discovered cash and packaging materials suggesting distribution, and the driver now faces several drug and alcohol-related charges that could carry up to 10 years in prison if fully convicted.
