Barbed wire fence installed near IC elementary school removed (1630kcjj.com) — A barbed-wire fence put up along the sidewalk near Lucas Elementary in Iowa City has been taken down after city officials deemed it a public safety hazard. The homeowner says it was meant to protect their property and still worries about kids walking on a nearby retaining wall and potential vandalism. 
2. Fall right-of-way tree plantings coming to south and east Iowa City (1630kcjj.com) — City crews will plant new street trees this fall in Iowa City's South District and Stone Bridge neighborhoods, all at no cost to homeowners. Residents may see utility flags in their right-of-way and can opt out of receiving a tree by calling Parks and Forestry by Sept. 1, while those who do get trees are encouraged to help with watering.

Iowa City woman arrested on drug possession warrant found with drug paraphernalia (1630kcjj.com) — Police recently arrested a 57-year-old Iowa City resident after an investigation into suspected drug activity at her South Lucas Street home, where officers previously reported finding psychedelic mushrooms and paraphernalia. Following a warrant, she was taken into custody and now faces multiple controlled-substance-related charges that could carry significant prison time if she's convicted.
