Newton School Board Pays Off Berg Middle School SAVE Debt Early (kniakrls.com) — Newton’s school board has paid off the remaining $1.7 million SAVE bond for Berg Middle School three years early, freeing up local-option sales tax revenue. District leaders say that money will now support ongoing renovations and additions at Aurora Heights and Thomas Jefferson Elementary, a move intended to ease Newton property tax burdens while upgrading school facilities. 
2. Newton Woman Enters Guilty Pleas In Felony Assault And Drug Case (kniakrls.com) — A 21-year-old Newton woman has pleaded guilty to several drug possession charges after being accused in a December home invasion and assault north of Newton. Deputies say the victim escaped to a nearby residence after suffering visible injuries, and officers later reported finding marijuana, methamphetamine, and nitrous oxide. The woman now awaits sentencing in Jasper County District Court on multiple misdemeanor counts.
3. Des Moines man arrested on child exploitation charges after Newton police sting (weareiowa.com) — Newton police arrested a Des Moines man after an undercover investigation in which an officer posed online as a minor, leading to multiple child exploitation-related charges. Authorities say the months-long probe involved sexually explicit messages and obscene material sent by email. The suspect was taken into custody at the Jasper County Jail and now faces felony enticing and grooming counts, plus several aggravated misdemeanors.
4. Connoisseur Shutters Four Iowa Stations. (insideradio.com) — Local listeners in Newton are losing several familiar radio options as Connoisseur Media shuts down KCOB-AM and KCOB-FM, along with sister stations in nearby Grinnell and the MyIowaInfo.com portal. The company, which previously cut much of the local programming, is pulling the plug as part of a broader effort to streamline its Iowa holdings. Former staff are now out of work while one ex-operator seeks investors to revive the stations.
