• College approves security upgrades (iolaregister.com subscription) — Allen Community College is investing about $659,000 to convert interior doors on its Iola campus to card-access electronic locks, allowing rapid lockdowns and better tracking of who enters rooms. Trustees also approved work with a Lenexa firm to overhaul the campus’s aging climate control system. These upgrades aim to improve safety, accessibility, and comfort for students and staff.

• Iola makes progress in split (iolaregister.com subscription) — Iola’s Junior Post 15 Indians split a doubleheader at Santa Fe Park, routing Chanute in the opener before losing a tight nightcap on a walk-off. Coach Ryker Curry praised his very young squad’s resilience and highlighted steady improvement. The team hosts Wellsville for another home doubleheader Friday evening, with first pitches set for 6 and 8 p.m.
