• WyCo/ KCK Juneteenth Parade & Celebration (thekansascityglobe.com) — Kansas City residents are invited to a Juneteenth parade starting 9 a.m. at 5th and Cleveland and running through downtown to Washington Blvd. Afterward, a free evening celebration at Memorial Hall will feature local performers, games, vendors, raffles, and food. Organizers note fireworks are postponed due to weather, but the community-focused festivities will still fill KCK with music and culture. 
• Who was James ‘Uncle Jimmy' Dodds? The deputy, mentor and KC radio personality (kansascity.com) — Kansas City residents are mourning James “Uncle Jimmy” Dodds, a longtime Wyandotte County deputy, youth mentor, and sports radio personality who was fatally shot outside his KCK home this week. Friends and family remember how he inspired local children, volunteered with community groups, and used his media platforms to encourage and uplift others.
• Mash Plastic wiffle ball tournament raises money for veterans, first responders in Kansas City (kmbc.com) — A major fundraiser for The Battle Within brought players and supporters to George Toma Field in Kansas City turning a backyard wiffle ball idea into a large community event. The ninth annual Mash Plastic tournament aims to raise $175,000 to support local veterans and first responders dealing with trauma, while giving residents a way to rally around those who serve.
