1. Motorcyclist seriously injured in crash on I-35 near Antioch in Overland Park (newsbreak.com) — Northbound I-35 in Overland Park was shut down Sunday night after a motorcyclist in his 40s was critically hurt in a crash just north of the Antioch bridge. Overland Park firefighters, police, and Johnson County Med-Act responded, with traffic diverted to Antioch Road until all lanes reopened around 3:16 a.m. Monday as the police Traffic Unit continues investigating.
   

2. Overland Park approves new headquarters for Black & Veatch (kctv5.com) — Overland Park's city council has unanimously approved plans for a new Black & Veatch world headquarters near College Boulevard and Metcalf, with a groundbreaking expected this fall and opening targeted for 2029. City leaders say the project will anchor further development along the College Boulevard corridor and reinforce the company's long-standing economic and community presence in Overland Park.
   

3. Overland Park approves $1.3 billion development project, playbook for city's future growth (kshb.com) — Overland Park's city council has approved a massive $1.3 billion redevelopment of the Black and Veatch headquarters site, adding housing, shops and a community park backed by about $800 million in tax incentives and new TIF and CID districts. Council members also adopted Playbook OP, shifting investment from neighborhood pools toward a large regional aquatic center, despite survey results favoring more local pools. These choices will shape taxes, recreation options and growth patterns across the city for years.
   

4. Feeling pain at the pump? Kansas City challenge says there's another way (kshb.com) — A Kansas City regional commuting challenge is encouraging people to swap solo driving for bikes, buses, carpools and the streetcar, even on routes into Overland Park. One participant now bikes from Hospital Hill to his Overland Park job and has given up owning a car, saving thousands on gas. Organizers say the October challenge can cut commuting costs and improve air quality across the metro.
   

5. 'Home is Kansas City' — Johnson County man recounts ICE detention (johnsoncountypost.com) — A Johnson County man who grew up in Overland Park and attended East Antioch Elementary and Shawnee Mission West describes being detained by ICE at work in Lawrence and deported to Mexico. He recounts difficult conditions in multiple detention centers, the strain of separation from his Kansas City–area children, and why, despite his ban from returning, he still considers Kansas City home.
