• After years of remodeling single-family homes, local nonprofit for adults with disabilities building its first apartments (johnsoncountypost.com) — A long-vacant lot near downtown Overland Park is being transformed into the Floyd Project, a $10 million, 17-unit apartment building for adults with disabilities and very low incomes, plus art and community spaces. Friends of JCDS is also planning to convert a former ambulance station in northern Overland Park into a few more accessible, affordable units, expanding local inclusive housing options.
   

• Painted rocks bring hope to 6-year-old girl battling rare cancer (kfor.com) — A 6-year-old Overland Park girl, Madison Lang, is fighting a rare childhood cancer and drawing strength from a growing garden of painted rocks created by neighbors, schools, and friends. Her family invites supporters to keep adding to "Maddie's Rock Garden" or donate via their Overland Park P.O. Box as her treatments continue.
   

• Plant nursery Earl May is closing its Shawnee nursery soon (johnsoncountypost.com) — A long-time Earl May Garden Center in Shawnee is holding closing sales through Dec. 7 before shutting its doors, ending the chain's last Johnson County location. The story also notes another kid-focused business, Pump It Up in Overland Park, has recently closed, signaling a changing retail landscape for local families and gardeners alike.
