Old Chicago can't serve alcoholic drinks in Wichita now, but it's working on it (kansas.com) — If you're heading to any of the three Old Chicago locations in Wichita, be aware they currently can't serve alcohol because the chain missed a liquor license renewal. Managers say they've requested reinstatement and hope approval comes soon, but for now the restaurants are closing early and posting signs promising pints again once the issue is resolved.

2. Air Force veteran brought his B-52 expertise to Wichita and Boeing (ksn.com) — A longtime Wichita resident and Air Force veteran who specialized in B-52 bombing and navigation brought that expertise to Boeing facilities here after serving at bases nationwide. He's remained in the Air Capital since retiring from the military, praising how Kansas now treats veterans and inviting locals to nominate others for recognition in the Veteran Salute series.

3. Girls flag football: Bishop Carroll takes down East (ksn.com) — Bishop Carroll's girls flag football team dominated Wichita East at home, winning 32-6 in a City League matchup. Carroll now prepares to host Wichita Northwest on Sept. 16, while East looks to rebound in a home game against undefeated Kapaun Mt. Carmel on Monday evening, giving Wichita fans several local flag football showdowns to catch.

Suburb names new city administrator after current one accepts job in Wichita (kansas.com) — Wichita is gaining a new assistant city manager as Andover city administrator Jennifer McCausland moves into a key leadership role at City Hall. Andover has promoted assistant administrator Jolene Graham to replace her, aiming for continuity in city operations while Wichita prepares to welcome McCausland to help oversee more than 3,300 municipal employees.

Annual contest determines the best-tasting tap water in Kansas (ksn.com) — Wichita is hosting the annual taste test that crowns Kansas' best tap water, with judges sampling and scoring entries from utilities across the state. This year, the City of Iola's water took top honors, but the event itself brought statewide bragging rights competition right into Wichita.
