📰 News we're reading

• Laura Kay Pavelchik, 69, of Allensville (wektradio.com) — Elkton readers are mourning Laura Kay Pavelchik, a 69-year-old U.S. Army veteran and former Certified Nurse’s Assistant at Hearthstone Place in Elkton, who passed away Wednesday at her Allensville home. Her family, including a son and daughter-in-law living in Elkton, will hold a memorial service with military honors later at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West in Hopkinsville.

• A week after announcing budget cuts, Kentucky governor moves millions to offset them (hoptownchronicle.org) — State Rep. Jason Petrie of Elkton is at the center of Kentucky’s budget debate, after Gov. Andy Beshear moved $30 million from stalled projects to ease cuts to Medicaid, foster care, and TANF. The move tests how much flexibility lawmakers, including Petrie, truly intended to give the governor when they crafted the “needs, not wants” budget earlier this year.
