• Frankfort Independent Schools considers starting kindergarten a day early (state-journal.com) — Frankfort Independent Schools is weighing a 2026–27 calendar change that could start kindergarten on Aug. 3, a day earlier and with all staff on hand to support new students. The board will revisit the proposal April 27, and families should also note kindergarten registration and the River Rat Run 3K on May 14, plus dual-credit milestones for 26 Frankfort High seniors.
   

• Kentucky child care reform bill becomes law (fox56news.com) — State lawmakers in Frankfort have approved House Bill 6, a sweeping child care reform package aimed at easing Kentucky’s child care shortage and supporting working families. The new law expands assistance programs, encourages new child care centers, and launches long-term studies that could reshape quality ratings and kindergarten readiness efforts over the next several years.
   

• Kentucky Democrats voice frustration over bills coming out of session (wymt.com) — From the Capitol steps in Frankfort Democrats criticized the 2026 legislative session for what they call inaction on health care, housing, and education, while Republicans defended record education funding and questioned the governor’s Medicaid math. With lawmakers adjourned until next year, both parties are already framing these Frankfort debates ahead of May and November elections.
