• Northern Kentucky University 2026-27 budget includes $2.1 million surplus, provides salary increases (nkytribune.com) — Northern Kentucky University in Highland Heights has approved a $222 million budget for 2026-27 that includes a $2.1 million surplus and a 3% raise for eligible employees. Students will see a 2% tuition increase as NKU continues stabilizing finances after eliminating a major deficit, while pledging to maintain affordability and support for academic programs and student services.

• Officials break ground on the Commonwealth Center for Biomedical Excellence (wvxu.org) — Highland Heights is losing NKU’s law school and UK’s Northern Kentucky medical campus to a new Commonwealth Center for Biomedical Excellence being built in downtown Covington, shifting jobs and payroll taxes out of Campbell County. State-funded and overseen by the Northern Kentucky Port Authority, the project has stirred controversy among Campbell County, Highland Heights, and Covington officials, with classes expected to begin at the new site in early 2029.
