New grassroots group joins Lexington gun violence prevention efforts (spectrumnews1.com) — A new Lexington nonprofit called Moms Outside is recruiting local mothers to patrol parks and gathering spots in the evenings, aiming to help curb youth gun violence after recent deadly shootings. Working alongside One Lexington and city programs, the group stresses it is not replacing police or politicians but adding a neighborhood-based presence and is actively seeking volunteers to start regular rounds.
   

2. Community corrections chief inducted into Ky. Veterans Hall of Fame (corrections1.com) — Lexington residents may be interested to know that Community Corrections Chief G. Scott Colvin has been inducted into the Kentucky Veterans Hall of Fame for his military service and decades in corrections. Colvin, who oversees the Fayette County Detention Center, emphasizes the crucial role local correctional officers play in Lexington's public safety system and community trust.
   

3. ONE Lexington holds community healing sessions in wake of deadly mass shooting (fox56news.com) — In response to the Charles Young Park shooting, ONE Lexington is hosting free community healing sessions at Shiloh Baptist Church on East Fifth Street, continuing through November on second and fourth Tuesdays. Sessions run 5:30–7 p.m. and offer art therapy, mindfulness, grief support, youth counseling, and on-site connections to longer-term care for Lexington residents coping with trauma.
   

4. UK sees record-breaking student awards, anticipates enrollment growth (tristatehomepage.com) — In Lexington, the University of Kentucky is celebrating a record 11,230 degrees and certificates awarded in 2025-26 while also anticipating further enrollment growth. At the same time, demolition of more than a dozen historic Lexington properties for new student housing has stirred community concern, as developers promise added housing supply and some preservation of neighborhood character.
   

5. "It's such a big need:" Glean Kentucky works to distribute food to individuals experiencing food insecurity (lex18.com) — Glean Kentucky is ramping up efforts in Lexington to rescue surplus produce and deliver it free to nearly 30 local partners, even as fuel costs strain its budget. Residents can directly help fight food insecurity by donating extra garden or farm produce at the group's North Broadway location, supporting food banks and shelters seeing sharply rising demand.
